The City of Reidsville looked within its ranks to hire its new Public Works Director.

Mourice “Moe” Brothers, who took over his new responsibilities on November 3, has some 22 years of local government experience. For the past two years, he has been Reidsville’s Wastewater Treatment Superintendent and ORC (Operator in Responsible Charge). Prior to coming to here, Brothers was the WWTP Superintendent/ORC for the City of Gastonia.

“I am honored and humbled to join the City of Reidsville team as Public Works Director,” Brothers said. “I look forward to collaborating with staff and residents. I will focus on planning, development and maintenance while ensuring our infrastructure supports the quality of life our residents deserve.”

Prior municipal experience included Brothers serving Mecklenburg County as Hazardous Waste Supervisor, Franklin County as WWTP Superintendent/ORC and Elizabeth City as its WWTP Manager. In the private sector, he was a contracted Environmental Health Safety Professional with Duke Energy. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for eight years, attaining the rank of Master-At-Arms.

After securing an Associate Degree in General Education, Brother earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management and a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Safety & Health/Environmental Management from Columbia Southern University in 2014.

Reidsville City Manager Summer Moore was excited to be able to hire from within for the Public Works position. Brothers’ familiarity with some of the ongoing projects was also a plus for the City, she noted.

“Mourice’s knowledge of City operations, especially at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, should provide a smooth transition into the Public Works Director’s position,” City Manager Moore said. “He already has a great relationship with fellow staff, and we believe he will serve the City and its residents well in this new capacity.”

Among some of Brothers’ first duties will be finding his replacement at the WWTP as well as getting up to speed on the various projects already under way in the City.

Manager Moore also publicly thanked retired Fire Chief David Bracken and retired Streets Superintendent Lindsey Tuttle at the November Council meeting. Bracken filled in as Interim Public Works Director while the City interviewed for the position. She thanked Bracken, and Lindsey Tuttle, who filled in as Interim Assistant Public Works Director, for their willingness to come back and help the City fill the void. Bracken was also able to work with Brothers to get him acclimated to his new position.
