Lightning Strike Results In Sewer Spill Tuesday Night

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the City of Reidsville Public Works Department responded to a sewer spill in the vicinity of Winstead Street.

A lightning strike hit the City’s Winstead Pumping Station around 6 p.m., damaging the generator transfer switch and central panel. The resulting sewer spill released an estimated 4,200 gallons of untreated sewer into Lick Fork Creek.

Once notified, Public Works crews responded to the call within 30 minutes. The spill was mitigated within two hours.
