Programs & Initiatives

Amber Alert Program

The AMBER Alert Program, named for nine-year-old Amber Hagerman, is a voluntary partnership between law enforcement agencies, broadcasters and transportation agencies to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child abduction cases.  Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to air a description of the abducted child, suspected abductor and any suspected vehicle involved.

The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and safe recovery of the child.

Crime Stoppers

Crimestoppers is a unique program that brings together business, law enforcement and ordinary citizens to fight crime and makes our community safer.  Crimestoppers utilizes social media, local newspapers, as well as radio and television stations to publicize unsolved crimes and seeks confidential help from citizens to solve these crimes.

The purpose of Crimestoppers of Rockingham County is to work in partnership to further promote and enhance the effectiveness of stopping crime.  Citizens who know information are encouraged to submit information anonymously by using the P3 Tips platform available by smartphone app or texting the word ROCOTIPS to 738477. Tipsters can also call 336-349-9683 to speak with staff duty personnel.  Confidentiality is assured by assigning callers a code number instead of asking for their name.  This code number is then used for all communication with the caller.  If the information from a caller leads to an arrest, the recovery of stolen property or the seizure of illegal drugs, the caller is eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.00.  Information received is distributed to law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction for the reported crime.

Crimestoppers is funded through donations from individuals and businesses interested in assisting the Reidsville Police Department and other Law Enforcement Agencies in Rockingham County in its effort to solve criminal cases.  Crimestoppers tips save investigative time which increases police efficiency and saves tax dollars.  The final result is a safer community that proactively fights crime.

Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) - Reidsville Police Department and Community Service Providers Launch Post Overdose Response Team

The Reidsville Police Department has partnered with organizations throughout the community to formulate a Post Overdose Response Team (PORT) as a response to the rising opioid crisis. Over the past several years, the Reidsville Police Department has noticed a significant increase in opioid related overdose statistics; from year 2017 to 2019 there has been a 119% increase in overdoses. The opioid crisis is a source of concern both nationally and locally.

PORT is comprised of Integrated Health Care Services of Rockingham County, Daymark Recovery Services, and the Reidsville Police Department. The purpose of this team is to assist the victims of overdose and aid them along the road to recovery. The team will respond to the victims of overdose within a 48 to 72 hour window and offer services to the victims and their families. PORT will begin responding July 1, 2020.

“We are fortunate to have the resources and community support within our city and county to assist citizens seeking help to fight their addiction.  We realize that all of these individuals may not seek assistance for a variety of reasons. Now, through the Post Overdose Response Team, the service providers will be responding directly to individuals in crisis. Our objective and mission of PORT is to get help to those in crisis, reduce the number of overdoses, and related deaths in Reidsville,” said Chief Ray Gibson.
